Makeup and Personal Products
Just by living our modern lives, we create our own unique toxic recipe that resides in our bodies.
Toxins make their way inside of us causing endocrine disruption, brain fog, organ failure
and innumerable health problems.
It’s even more insidious because most people are not aware of the extent of the pollution inside of us.
The real purpose of this post is to go over why hormone imbalance in women happens.
I suspect a major reason is because of the makeup and personal products they regularly use.
I’m aware that women’e magazines have been covering this the last few years . I scour the magazine covers at the check out line and know there should be more awareness these days …. but just in case ?
These imbalances can prevent weight loss no matter how hard you try.
I will present a list of chemicals commonly found in makeup and personal products, that you must know about.
It’s a rather negative subject so don’t let it get to you. Be smart, avoid toxins if you can.
Except for color additives and a few prohibited substances,
cosmetics companies can use any ingredient or raw material they want in their products,
without government review or approval.
That is because the chemical industry is largely unregulated.
There are over 80,000 chemicals in use in the US, and the vast majority of them have
never been assessed for safety by federal regulators. Comforting to know eh ?
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned
only 30 ingredients in personal care products. The EU has banned 1328 chemicals from cosmetic use.
It’s clear to me that people’s health and safety is very important in the EU . In the U.S., the governance, regarding chemicals seems more like the same way we determine if traffic lights
are truly needed in our communities: not until there are fatalities, is anything done.
The trouble is , there is so little information or testing done on tens of thousands of chemicals.
In the meantime, the damage to our bodies is constant and ongoing.
Lawsuits take years to develop and often nothing is done to change the chemical if settled out of court.
Not so comforting eh ?
The FDA also has little authority over cosmetic companies, cannot recall harmful cosmetics,
and relies on companies to report injuries from their products a voluntary basis. Not at all comforting !
Let’s concentrate on makeup and personal products right now.
One step at a time,….. This is really all about getting you in
beautiful slim clothes and experiencing the best health possible !
What do hormones do in the body ?
They are chemicals produced by glands in the endocrine system like insulin,Testosterone and Estrogen.
There are upwards of 50 known hormones in our bodies. They carry and send messages to and from
different fat cells (the receptors). They create biological actions like blood sugar changes and letting us know when we are hungry or full and satisfied.
This list of things they do is endless .
I encourage you to spend time learning about the powerful and fascinating world of hormones.
The endocrine system is normally finely tuned as you could possibly attempt to imagine.
It depends on hormone system changes that would appear to be almost molecular to most people.
Yes , it is that minutely and finely tuned.
ANCB board certified naturopath Cammi Balleck states
“ An average woman uses 12 products with more than 168 chemicals in them every morning”.
Most women apply makeup in the morning ,touch up during the day, and take it off at night.
That is a lot of daily exposure to chemicals.
In reality , losing weight just might be the least of your worries if we really look into the dangers some of these chemicals may cause.
These chemicals can imitate hormones, while destroying others. Some create miscommunication
or signaling issues in hormonal receptors. There are countless chemicals I did not list.
So, it’s quite important for you to research the ingredients on your favorite personal products .
You need to be able use them with peace of mind . This is something very positive and actionable .
Get in the habit of reading the labels of everything you buy. It should be every modern woman’s credo !
Here’s the Good News. There are now 100’s of small boutique make up companies
all over the internet that sell safe non hormone disrupting makeup and personal products .
So don’t despair if your favorite products contain the bad juju. The big companies are slowly coming around , but you might keep having to make some noise like thousands’s of other women to
ensure forward movement to cleaner healthier products.

according to Margo Marrone, Founder and Chemist at The Organic Pharmacy.
